Mirror, mirrorA Poem by Rose of GondorMirror, mirror, On the wall, Who’s the fairest One of all? Not me, I’m sure I’m no one special My features are plain You’d easily forget me I have no lustrous, golden curls No rosy, unblemished skin No slender, willowy figure No large, watery eyes When you walk by You don’t take a second look Because I’m as plain As the stone wall behind me I blend into crowds Nothing special about me I fade into the background Because you’re too shallow to see You won’t understand me What kind of beauty I hold You’ll never see me In the true glory of light Mirror, mirror, On the wall, Who’s the fairest One of all? Who is that lucky maiden Equipped with glorious loveliness? Does she understand how blessed She is to have such a thing? Will I ever be that lucky maiden Equipped with glorious loveliness? Will anyone ever look at me and say “There is a beauty if you’ve ever seen one!” No, they will walk away They don’t understand The beauty underneath They see only the exterior They see right past me Like I am not there I am not special But I long to be seen So here it is My heart is bared Look, anyone who will Look, and you’ll see Mirror, mirror On the wall, Will anyone see me For what I am? © 2012 Rose of GondorAuthor's Note
