What IfA Poem by Rose of GondorIt's been years since you were gone I've played it over and over again Remembering every detail In my mind Your face Your words You lips curled in a sneer You weren't the man I remember And through all these years The thing that hurts the most Is the question that drove me To the edge of insanity What if I had never let you go? If I had only tried to understand? If you told me what was on your mind? What if we could redo it all? What if I had never let you go? If I was brave enough to tell you I love you? If you stayed and tried to listen? What if we could somehow start over? Where are you now? What are you thinking of? Does your heart ache because of me The way mine aches because of you? Years have passed I still love you more than words can tell Would you never leave me be? Never stop haunting me? And through all these years The thing that hurts the most Is the question that drove me To the edge of insanity
The beautiful torment That refuses to leave me be Is a single question That one, simple question What if I had never let you go? If I only tried to help? If you never lost yourself? What if we redo it all What if I had never let you go? If you fought the darkness? What if we could somehow start over? Would you be the same man you were? Would you have tried? Would I have been glad? Would you have been mine? Would you have understood? Would you have let me in? Would I have helped at all? Would you have been mine? What if I had never let you go? If I had tried? If you had stayed? What if we could turn back time? But it's too late now And we'll never know © 2012 Rose of GondorAuthor's Note
