September 11th, 2001A Poem by Rose of GondorDedicated to anyone who had been unfortunate to be old enough during 9/11 to know what had occured. I am thankful I wasn't one of them.It was a morning Like any other But it was the day my whole life Changed I remember Looking up at the sky Squinting in the sun Wondering Why the plane was flying So low In the sky Wondering What was happening And then Just like that There was no struggle None of us could’ve done Anything To stop it We watched The American Airlines Flight 11 Sail through the air Watched as it Crashed Into The I remember The gasps The momentary silence And then all hell broke loose I don’t remember Who did it first But after a single blood-curdling scream We began to chorus Shrieking But I didn’t do anything I stayed perfectly still Rooted to the spot Silent Like those statues of angels In the graveyard My blood was cold My face a mask My heart had almost stopped My mother was in there I remember falling to my knees Sobbing As finally My hope departed My mother was On the 106th floor That day In a single morning A single moment I lost Everything I ever had I lost Love And family I lost myself I retreated into The shell inside me Turning myself to stone I lost Everything I ever had On that fateful morning Of September eleventh 2001 © 2011 Rose of GondorAuthor's Note
