I Don't Know WhyA Poem by Rose of GondorThis is NOT supposed to be an angsty "He doesn't like me for who I am" teen poem. I'm just saying because if my dad reads this he'll think I'm writing angsty teen love poems. The emphasis is on FRIENDI don't know why I ended up here tonight Cold in the rain Swallowed by the pain as I Watch you walk away
I don't know why today of all days I decided it was Enough I don't know why I chose to take off my mask today To reveal what's behind that bit of masquerade To reveal my truth My real self
I don't know why I chose to be myself today Truly myself The prisoner I kept deep inside for far too long In order to be among The many you love And be Your friend
I don't know why I made you cry I don't know why I said those things I don't know why I turned away when your tears began to fall
But somehow I realize All is too late There's nothing I could do To put the mask back on Forgive me Friend For all I've done to you.
Your tears fall steadily As you turn away from me We were both drenched with rain Cold and shivering Our friendship broken
I don't know why
