Bells

Bells

A Poem by Rose of Gondor

At the midnight hour the silver bell tolls

Into a sea of dark the rivers flow

When bidding farewell to a thousand souls

In fire or in ice an eternal glow

For in the darkest land where time stands still

The place where lost, wandering spirits roam

Neither by choice nor a loss of free will

Mortal warriors make their final home

When you think you have nothing left to lose

Remember there is always one thing more

For what shall your soul be inclined to choose

When sailing along the eternal shore

In the end of time Death shall take us all

And under his great tattered wings we fall

Author's Note

Rose of Gondor
was assigned to write a sonnet for english class :D Teacher told us to pick a "higher" topic and for some reason my morbid brain goes to death as that higher topic. I know it's not really in teht raditional method of "Problem, explanation, resolution" that shakespeare uses but it's ok :D

A spirtitually wise poem you have created here… I rather felt uplifted by your words.

I wonder what you mean by "higher" topic... but it's always somehow more enthralling when it rhymes. My favorite part of reading poems is reading what I think there is between the lines, looking for double meanings, contradictions, emphasis on particular element(s) of the poem. Death is one of a set of many mortally alluring ideas, in this case it's: what happens after death? And how can we be sure of such conclusions?

Ahh, if I didn't see the picture, I would not re-connect the poems intent to the movie. :D But in all ways, I really do like it. Your vision in this piece explain much on what is not explain through out the years. A touch of fantasy and mystery. Life and death, darkness and light - all part of this world we live in... a very nice piece.
