From Deep Within the Mountain

From Deep Within the Mountain

A Poem by Rose of Gondor

From deep within the mountains

An ancient rhythm beats

Like flames of hope sustaining

Or waking from dreamless sleep

An unheard song of home and hearth

Weary wanderers sing

When heart and feet tire of wandering afar

And no comfort beauty brings

A pain felt deep within the soul

Like steel upon the flesh

An aching longing to be whole

And memories far to fresh

Of a valley far from long ago

As if from a dream

Where precious treasure the land does hold

And crystalline rivers stream

Where shouting laughter echoes on

Through sturdy halls of stone

And whether it be night or day

One can never be alone

And a voice there sings of gentle sleep

Of long awaited rest

But in the shadow of mountains bleak

A danger none forget

For this valley became the lair

Of a powerful, ruthless beast

Damaged beyond repair

When finally its fiery breath ceased

For sake of broken memories

The mocking ruins remain

Hold a million legacies

Legacies of pain

But kindled from the embers

Is a different kind of flame

A song of hope remembered

Stubborn pride stirred by shame

And they rise with their hopes singing

Like beacons in the dark

Echoing, their voices ringing

As the night cries, “Listen! Hark!”

For from this flame, burns glory

And at last, sweet relief

When cheering for bitter victories

And mourning sweet defeat

From deep within the mountains

An ancient rhythm beats

Like flames of hope sustaining

Or waking from dreamless sleep

whoooooaaaaa. I'm still alive. Yup. I haven't disappeared off the face of this planet yet. :D STILL HERE! And this is...something that I just wrote....I spent a lot of time on it, to make it rhyme but still make sense....:D I'm not really satisfied with the ending, cause I'm not sure I ended it very well. Not sure if I got the closure right. Well. Hope people likes.

Love the poem, it has something epic to it. It evokes this feeling of forgotten pain and hardship for some greater purpose. Some kind of longing for this purpose... I don't know how to describe it... It's the sort of thing Tolkien achieves in his tales and for me this kind of emotion is quite rare, so well done ;-).

Love the Legacies of Pain verse, beautifully made.

I really love how well this rhymes. There are a few awkward points "As the night cries, “Listen! Hark!”" I wasn't a big fan of this line. I think it could be better. I really loved this poem though. I feel like this is a poem I would see in a book that's published. I can't wait to read more of your writing. It's really beautiful! (: I actually really like the ending and think you should keep it the way that it is. I also like how the first verse is also the last. Very nice! (:
