Come Back

Another one of my dark, depressing poems...

You’ve always known

The world is cruel

You always told me

Life is harsh

 

And now sitting here

Beside you

I wonder if that is

What made you snap

 

I don’t want to believe it

I don’t think I can

But you finally caved in

“Can’t do it anymore,” you said.

 

But the you I knew

Would’ve fought

You never gave in

Even when the world was torn apart

 

I guess it was

All too much

I guess you couldn’t

Take it any longer

 

A dull pain rises in my chest

When I look into your eyes

When those defeated looking orbs

Stare vacantly back at me

 

The spark is gone from your eyes

That spark that danced and laughed

You’ve seen too much

Heard too much

 

You don’t deserve to hurt

And I’m sorry you have to

I guess it doesn’t matter now

Because I wasn’t able to protect you

 

And now it comes to this

I’m begging you

Please come back

Come back to us

 

Live again

Laugh again

Forget what is past

Start life anew

 

I just want to see

That spark back in your eyes

And the smile that lights up

Even the darkest night

 

Please come back

I’m begging you to fight

Come back to us

Come back to me

 

Come back

This is really very, very sad, but it is a wonderfully written poem about sadness in dark times of strife and hardship! It was very well worth reading!
