If by Some MiracleA Poem by Rose of GondorDear God, please hear my prayerSometimes at night Before I go to sleep I’ll watch the stars And pray for you I’ll settle into silence And try to communicate with God But I never know exactly What to say to Him There’s too much I need to tell Of your light and goodness There’s too much I need to say about you So I open my mouth to speak “Dear God, she’s like a sister So many promises I’ve made to her Have yet to be fulfilled So please let her be alright Dear God, she’s still young Many full years are before her Don’t any of them away Let her be alright Dear God, please understand We need her like fish needs water If by some miracle you’re listening Let her be alright.” I sit by the window And let the cold breeze chill me Waiting for the dawn Through the long hours of the night I try to think of you Of your laughter and your voice And when I drown in these memories I feel my cheeks, wet with tears And in the silence of the morning I kneel beside the hearth Upon the dusty floor And lift my hands in a silent prayer “Dear God, no more agony Have mercy on her Have mercy on us Let her live, let her be Dear God, please I’m begging you Don’t do this Let her be alright I don’t know what I’d do without her So please let her be alright Let her grace the world with her light.” And here my voice falters Because I don’t know if He’s listening Is He somewhere in the clouds Looking down upon us now? Did he hear my prayers? Did he know what you mean to me? Will he try to make you alright? If, by some miracle, he’s listening? © 2012 Rose of GondorAuthor's Note
