The Verse of the East WindA Poem by Rose of GondorThe verse that Tolkien never wroteFrom the land
of doom, where shadows lie, through the black gates of Mordor The East Wind
howls and passes through the fair lands of Gondor “Yield to the
shadow, unworthy men!” it taunted, “For you are clouded in its gloom! Your captain
fell upon the Anduin shore, haunted and lost in his doom!” Yet in the end his
noble spirit was undimmed, untouched by darkness For through his
struggle he found redemption, and gave his life for the helpless He lies now in
an elven boat, free of all burden and care The time had
finally come for rest, and his face was proud and fair Farewell
Boromir, the banner of the white tree rises once more, resonating light But you cannot
see it or hear the silver trumpets through Death’s unending night © 2012 Rose of GondorAuthor's Note
