![]() Misha The Deaf BearA Poem by James RosecransMisha the deaf bear, with eyes that wander, but never move This dumb cub swam across the sea, because he had something to prove He ran over the mountain, to say good morning to his sun He worked his paws, to earn this thanks, but he never received one His ears were full of thoughts; his eyes were filled with sounds He always cleaned the mess they left, when no one was around He carved his name into his friends, wherever he would go Upon their chest, they hid his name; no one could ever know He wandered to the sand city, and he met another bear A unicycle Kiril would ride, and a fanny pack he’d wear “Accept the love you’re given, and forgive the ones that don’t” Offering his legs, he kicked a mine, because he knew they won’t Give up their family " so he gave up climbing his own tree A dying man, told him one day, to be the best bear he could be His body aged, his hair gave way, and he claimed “okay” again He never answered when the man would call, forgive him for this sin His home, with windows filled with smoke, he couldn't see inside The father living in that house, he’d drunk too much and died So Misha casts a shadow now, which pulls him under doors When he awakes, he has no dreams, because his memory’s poor He made a friend, who talked too much, but he would call her deer At night his memory gave him up, whenever she was near The busy road she crossed each day, was everything he’d feared Deer walked too slowly ‘cross the street, that night she disappeared Now the deaf bear sits, with eyes that wander, but never move He lost his legs, he cannot run; he’s nothing left to prove. © 2013 James Rosecrans |
