Communist China

Communist China

A Poem by Rose Burke
"

My view on the economy and human geography of China over the last few decades.

"
The air is full of promise; I can smell success from here

We are giants in the making and our vision now is clear

Our kingdom shines with glory and our subjects will comply

The weak are to the fire and the prosperous will fly

To get rich is glorious

A flame that’s burning freely is a hazardous affair

We must be quick to quell it lest the smoke corrupts the air

Silence is your friend and effervescence will be stilled

The cat that leaves the bag for curiosity is killed

To get rich is glorious

Despite our opposition our incentive never sleeps

Even the strongest lion can’t detain a thousand sheep

Our grip upon you strengthens as we lure you with our bait

So choose your weapons wisely; we’ll be waiting at the gates

To get rich is glorious

"Even the strongest lion can't detain a thousand sheep." Love it. That is an awesome line. I think this is referring to how China is, simply put. They were a sleeping giant and now they are a superpower. "The cat that leaves the bag for curiosity is killed." From that (Which is another awesome line) I got that if you try other ways you will be shunned.

I agree. A forgotten force. Beat USA in Korean and the Vietnam war. Sleeping giant is waiting. I liked your thoughts. We should hold concern. Thank you Rose for sharing the excellent poetry. Left something for the reader to think about.

When I first saw that you had a poem about China's success and power, I expected it couldn't be good. But I came in with an open mind and as I read it, I saw how impressive it really is. The words and phrases used give quite the impression of power and ambition. You used excellent metaphors that are present in many of the lines to strengthen that impression of power.

My analysis of the poem is that the politicians of China are boasting about their rapidly growing power, and telling that they will soon rise above all other powers and conquer them all. However, one line seems to contradict this message; "Even the strongest lion can't detain a thousand sheep." It sounds to me like China is the lion, and the other countries are the sheep. So this is saying that even as powerful as China may be, it can't take on the power of all the other countries combined. So does that mean that this is not in the point of view of China, but the rest of the world telling China that they will continue to grow exponentially until they try to take over the world, leading to their own downfall? But yet the rest of the lines suggest this is being told by China, do maybe I simply misinterpreted that line?

This poem is well written. Keep it up.

Wow so I kinda got that it's about how rich men
In society control it and dictate over others while the ones that
Do fight against it or show free will or exterminated
And the dictators try to keep the crowd following them
To stay in control. The battle of dictator ship and the people
