The Ride Up There

The Ride Up There

A Poem by Rosauro Brillantes

Just sitting in this car

On the way to the metropolis state

If I never see your face

Then I guess that it is fate

The window's getting foggy

With the stars cradled in the sky

I close my eyes and think

Never truly knowing why

As I continue down this road

With your face still in my mind

I take a deep breath in

Our moments never coincide

The city lights glow brighter

The roads shiny from the rain

Drifting to an endless search

My destination can't be ascertained

This cold air blowing in my ride

Wakes me from this sweet dream

My heart's been asleep for years

I can't have you, so it seems

This silent city sleeping

Passing by to make its leave

Our sepia memories fading

Girl, we were just never meant to be
