Chapter OneA Chapter by rosarinnewell at the beginning this was more of a romance story, but i changed it a bit gave it a twist... xDHalloween was right around the corner and like every year, Samantha and her friend had to do something dumb. "It's not dumb, it's the tradition of the beautiful Eve of Halloween, and we are going to do it!!", said Sarah, Sam's friend. "It? What exactly 'it' is?” she asked annoyed.
"IT is THE scariest thing that we can think of!! It's Halloween and we won't get any fun by trick or treating, so... we have to scare our asses of.” Sarah practically yelled. "Yeah right, and when did that became the tradition? Last year all we did was tell some stupid stories that we all heard billion times, and sorry to rain on your parade, but there’s no ‘Eve of Halloween’..." "Samantha! Please stop being such a baby. Just for once in your life do something else than sit home in front of TV with a book. Have a life, ok? But if you don't want to do it then I understand. After all you always have to be so boring, plus I know that you are scared." Samantha looked at Sarah with disbelief in her eyes. She knew that she didn’t have the most exciting life ever, but Sarah didn’t need to rub it in. “You know perfectly well that I like sitting at home. Besides, I think that once I had a great boyfriend, with whom I was out all the time. But then, magically he cheated on me with none other than my best frie-“ Samantha exclaimed. “Sammy, you know how terribly sorry I was and still am for that. It just kind of happened, and it was a year ago, can’t you just forgive and forget?” Sarah asked. Samantha just nodded absent-mindedly at her friend. Yes, she has forgiven and forgotten, but the pain was still there. The fact that her own friend and boyfriend hurt her like that still was locked in Samantha’s mind. “Let’s just change the subject. I’d rather talk about that stupid ‘tradition’ than about what happened” Samantha concluded, Sarah nodded her head. “So, umhm.. I’ll tell you about what I’m planning, but only if you completely agree to do it with me.” Sarah smiled. "Ugh... ok I'll do it. You leave me no choice, and it definitely will be better than staying with my sis at home." Sam said, as she sat next to Sarah. "And that's why we are best friends, Sammy!!!" They both started laughing as if that was the best joke anyone ever told. When the laughs died out, and the quietness of the room took over, Sarah became really serious. "So, my plan is that we will spend a night at.... THE OLD ABANDONED CEMETERY!!!!" Sarah yelled into Sam's ear. "Wow... I always wanted to go there at night. When I was about 5! Sarah, we are seniors, do you really expect it to be scary?” Samantha looked at her friend. Knowing that there was nothing she could say that would change Sarah’s mind. Sam got used to the fact that Sarah always got whatever she wanted, and there was nothing that could stop her. "Duh! Because you have never been there at night!! That's why you think that it's not scary. But believe me, a friend of my friend told me that it's haunted" Sarah said seriously. Sam looked at her friend with a look that could only be described as 'you must be kidding' and started to laugh. All of the ghost stories started with "friend of my friend". Sarah looked at Sam with anger; quickly Samantha hugged her friend and said that she'll be happy to go tomorrow. It seemed to satisfy Sarah, so she went home. Sam stayed up a little longer and thought about that stupid 'tradition'. After a while she thought that maybe Sarah plans on scaring her or something like that, just so she could prove that she is right. Sam chuckled to herself, and turned off the light. That night she had the weirdest dream ever... Sam woke up in the middle of the night, sweat was pouring down her forehead, she looked around the room disoriented. Images were rushing through her mind, she lay down on her bed trying to put all of the pieces together. Trying to remember that dream, trying to understand it. She closed her eyes to concentrate and remembered walking through some forest. It was dark and no moon was visible. When she walked out of the forest she ended up on some sort of meadow. It looked very peaceful, but she felt chill down her neck. Quickly, she turned around, but only saw the trees. Sam started walking forward, and she walked up to a small lake. She looked at the water but couldn't see her reflection; all she saw was a big red moon, even though there was no moon in the sky. She looked down, freaked out, and saw that the water was touching her white dress; the only problem was that the dress quickly became soaked with blood. With panic in her eyes, she turned around, planning on running back into the forest, but all she saw were white teeth and red eyes. That was all Sam remembered from her dream. It seemed so vivid, and that meadow was somewhat familiar. She just couldn't remember where she saw it before. She was thinking so hard about it that without even noticing, she fell back to sleep. She didn't dream about anything else. When she woke up, she had bleak images from that dream. Sam just couldn't shake off the feeling that this dream was really important and is somehow true... She looked at the clock and saw that it was already 11am, enough time to get up and take a quick shower. She had to get ready, because Sarah said that she'll be at her house at 2pm, so they would still have time to watch some gory movie to get in to the mood... Sam tried hard to concentrate on not thinking about that dream while making a bowl of popcorn. She run up to her room with popcorn in hand and just as she was finishing with cleaning up a little, the doorbell rang. Sarah came inside dressed in something that looked like ripped up, black wedding dress. "Why didn't you get one for me?” Sam said with a smile.
"Who said I didn't??” Sarah said as she took out similar dress from her bag. Sam looked at her friend and just shook her head, as if trying to figure out why she still was friends with her. She took the dress and changed into it and had to admit that she looked pretty creepy. Especially with all that black make up she had on. When the movie was over, it was already darkening outside. Both of them decided that it was time to get out, because the cemetery (or THE OLD ABANDONED CEMETERY, as Sarah liked to call it) was about 30min walk from the house. On normal day, people would look at the two of them like they are crazy, but since it was Halloween everyone was dressed into something, so their black dresses didn't stand out. They got to the cemetery without any trouble, nothing scary and no blood. But once they stepped onto the ground of the cemetery, the mood totally changed. It wasn't scary, it was just really creepy. It was already dark and all the crooked tombs looked so ominous. Samantha saw that Sarah had 'satisfaction' written all over her face. Sam just laughed it off and said "I'm not even scared. The mood is just so great...” "I don't expect you to be scared, at least not yet..." That time, Sam just totally cracked up. And kept on walking. It was very quiet and she saw a little forest ahead, for a moment she remembered that dream, but at the back of her head she knew that it was impossible. Without even looking back, she quickened her pace as the curiosity took over her brain and walked into the forest. It was just like in that dream, she couldn't see the moon, and the forest didn't seem scary. Sam reached the end and to her own surprise, she saw the exact same meadow. She just froze and looked around, and thought that you were dreaming again, so she pinched herself, hoping that she'll wake up, but no--it wasn't a dream. She turned around but couldn't see her friend anywhere. Sam thought that she must have been too fast for Sarah to follow. For a second she considered turning back and running away as fast as she could, but some unseen power kept her in that meadow. By now, she was pretty sure that there will be a lake near, but she didn't want to risk going there. So instead she just circled around the meadow. Sam came to a stop and sat on a rock, she wanted to go back into the forest, but there was something that kept her rooted to that rock, like something was controlling her mind. Just as she thought about that, there came a low humming from behind her. She turned around frightened, but saw nothing. She looked for a few seconds, and then faced forward. Her eyes met with someone else's eyes, the only problem was that they were red. She couldn't help but shriek. The face moved back, and Sam saw that in front of her was standing the most beautiful guy ever. He looked about few years older than her and had dark brown hair, and pale skin, she was pretty sure that his eyes were red, but when she looked again they were black. His clothes were very outdated, and a silvery chain with weird insignia hung around his neck. She just stared at this stranger, too amazed to say something or even to move. Waiting for him to say something, but he just looked at her with the same intensity as she looked at him. "Hello" he said calmly.
"Hello", she tried to sound as nonchalant as he, but her voice trembled. She just thought about how amazing his voice sounds. "I'm Vincent, and you are?"
"Samantha, what are you doing here?" He chuckled, "I can ask you the same question. But I'm here because you are here." "Wait, what? You knew that I'll be here?" she whispered.
"No, but this forest is like my home, I know every place in here, and I know when someone’s invading my property.” He said with coolness. “Yes, it is Halloween, but I had no idea that they let creeps like you walk on the streets.” Sam said, as she rose from the stone. He grabbed her wrist, and gave her a little pull. For the first time during that night she was truly petrified. “Where do you think you’re going?” he asked with anger in his voice.
“What does it look like, genius?” Samantha said, her sarcasm getting the best out of her. “Do you want me to stay for a friendly tea and cookies?” she sneered in his direction. She tried twisting her hand out of his grip, but his hands only tightened around hers. “Don’t even try. There’s no way you’ll be getting out of here. And by now, I suppose that you have a vague idea of who I am. Am I right?” he asked gently. "Well, it’s hard to decide between creep and psycho.” Sam said.
Vincent smiled wide, showing his fangs to her, expecting a cry of shock; he was surprised to see her chuckle a little. “Are those teeth the bubble gum ones that you can eat? Or did you spend a little more money and got yourself the plastic ones?” Sam asked with faked curiosity. “You can’t really expect me to be afraid and start believing in vampires? You know, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m way past 4th grade.” “You are lucky Samantha, that I’m a very patient person. And by the way, who said that I’m a vampire?” he asked, mocking Samantha. “Then who are you? What are you?” Sam asked, starting to get curious.
“Wouldn’t you be a happy camper if you knew, huh?” he asked, teasingly.
“You know, I really don’t care. Just let me go, you psycho, and I’ll help you look for a good psychiatrist.” “Tsk, tsk. Now why, you aren’t playing nice at all. Where’s the fun in that?” he asked with faked sadness in his voice. “Maybe there was no fun intended, to begin with?” she asked with anger.
“Now why would you be so angry at me?” he asked mockingly.
"I don't trust you, it's that simple" she said in a calm and even voice. He cleared his throat loudly. "Why wouldn't you?"
"I don't even have to answer that, it's just so obvious." her words were filled with venom, now that the spell he had over her had worn off. Vincent lifted his arms, as if to embrace her, "Don't you dare touch me! Your mind controlling game worked before, don't try it again" she said through gritted teeth, standing up at the same time. "And do you think that I'm afraid of a mere girl? What can you do?" he seemed as sly as he did before. She didn't answer. She didn't scream. She made a small step back, knowing that she wouldn't escape, but still at least trying. He didn't do anything either. He knew that he had already won; there was nothing she could do now. "You know, it could have been so wonderful," Vincent said, readjusting his shirt "the dreams were to lead you here. Then I'd tell you some cheesy lines, and bam! like that you'd be my lovely dinner. But of course, you had to mess everything up" he made a step towards her "why on the Earth would you say 'no' to me? Why? Did you think that you would be a hometown hero? Local Girl Saves the Day, well if you really want to be on the first page, then I'll make sure of it.." His hands now on Samantha's shoulders, she didn't dare to say anything. "Only the headline will be quite different. Don't you think, my love?" he said with a sneer. Samantha shook her head, moments later Sarah heard a loud shriek coming from the forest nearby...
