The LetterA Poem by Forevergone
It All Started With the Letter I never expected that a piece of paper, Stained with black ink, Crumpled, almost to the point of no comprehension I never expected that it could change my life I saw it lying on the steps And picked it up The ink had run The rain had made it soggy and wet I threw it inside, and left It didn’t mean much to me For weeks it stayed there. Tragedies struck I never even looked to see what it said Once while crying over the loss that I had I noticed the note Never before touched by me Still crying, I picked it up I slowly unfolded the page And looked down to see what it said I noticed the writing Before I noticed anything else I knew who wrote this I just didn’t know why The tears came down, faster than before How could I not have looked at this How could I have made that mistake? I studied it, trying to find more answers To questions I still haven’t asked It all started with the letter A series of events Spiraling downward, out of context Someone’s life out there ended because of this letter I didn’t know what to do So I took my life too
