The rain-clouds are overhead mother

Inspired by an old Goan Folk song ...(mando-dulpod style) a young woman waits patiently for her sailor lover to return from the ship.... but the feller has found new love half-way around the World.

Rain clouds are overhead mother,

The Sea is raging,

Seated by the sea-shore alone mother,

I count the waves and my thoughts merging.

My lover has gone across the Ocean,

when will he return?

My lover has crossed the ocean,

No email; no phone!

*Alas! The mermaids have drowned my lover!

He might have been transformed already mother,

Into a scaly-slimy-merman, clad in sea-weed,

He may have already sired a shoal of swimming fish-kids mother,

The damned mermaids stole my lover's seed...

Still i am chaste mother, still untouched ...sigh,

If only we had danced the dance of creation...he and I,

Now merman in a coral palace trapped beneath the watery sky,

Who will fill my void mother, I was so ready...my o my!

*Alas! The mermaids have kissed my lover!

I'm Fire burning on the sea-shore mother,

You named me "Olive", aye aye,

Gave me birth in a rustic village  mother,

After dear father bid you goodbye...

And I curse those sirens now mother, them and their accursed rocks,

My Popeye's ship they sank my mother,

When he could have been safe and warm  in my dry-docks,

His clothes are still hanging on the line mother,

Erm...He forgot to take back his jocks,

His toes must be awfully cold now mother,

He came in to me last year and left me his old socks.

*Heyyyy! Wanna have a drink mum?! I got a BO-bottle of good ole Rum! i'M DRUNK...i'M HIgh  MOTHER.. HICK!-!

My Popeye loved his Spinach so much mother,

More'n he ever could love me,

My sailor got a tattoo on his evil *Blush* mother,

Gigantic when uphill, minuscule when downhill.

His arms are like ripe-pulpy mangoes mother,

But he loves my juicy Guavas,

And he spends endless hours sucking mother,

On his right thumb whilst sleeping for hours.

* Ahhh...he is a great sucker aw'right mother!

Rain is pouring in torrents mother,

I can't go home, can't come home,

The sea is calling me my mother,

Do not cry for me.. for I have gone...
But I will visit you in dreams mother,
 you wont be alone,

I will wire you Gold-coins by the after-life mail mother, Mama...I love you a ton!

*Alas! The mermaids have drowned my lover!

Sigh! The mermaids have loved my lover!

Alas! I have lost him my mother!

this is oddly reminiscent of a writer i used to read and love back in the 70's named Shel Silverstien...trust me, that is a huge compliment. i love this write, it is diverse and unique and has an ethereal quality which takes the reader to a surrealistic landscape/seascape. beautifully done! faves....

Thank you Nick...That instrumental was written for the Oberon Piano Trio from Germany Berlin...by a friend and me. It was for Violin, Cello and Piano. Of course the version you heard is just a simple midi-wave-table version of computer sounds rendered to mp3. It would sound great on live instruments...and they promised to play in In their world tour. Glad you like the lyric too...thx

I like how the speaker is addressing their mother and it is a type of ballad. I don't care for some of the chosen words like "sexy," it doesn't seem to fit.

The poem was a sad story...but I could find a dash of humor in it, that really goes down well with the reader. Here goes -
"He may have already sired a shoal of swimming fish-kids mother, The damned mermaids stole my lover's seed..." - brought a smile to the face! You make us happy kiddo! :)

The Damsel's sorrow is one of many maids in her day, and some today although I am certain they are not "maids". An awful time as one waits when a loved one has gone into the ever fickle sea, where tides can change quite rapidly, a dangerous job... I like how you added some lightness here and there. :)
