Ode to Sweet Dreams and Fairy Tales

Ode to Sweet Dreams and Fairy Tales

A Poem by Ru Banerjee
"

A gift for my two daughters on their birthday

"
Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty waltz with their prince charmings

In the painted carnival of cherry blossoms and butterflies,

In the wonderland of your dreams, sweet dreams,

Every night, starry starry night, where I behold you in your silky slumber--

With tender kisses and cuddles,

I seal my enduring trust in your tiny bodies--

My mind, a wanderer in the dark, lustful world,

Yet craving to embrace your sweet nothings....

Soon the wonderland of your dreams will fade away,

The mud and soil of this giant world will surround you,

Howl in your ears to grow up, let go.

Let there still be room for the serenity and magic of your dreamland,

Let the fragrance of human love and life be yours' still,

In the vain world where you may open your eyes tomorrow.

Author's Note

Ru Banerjee
Dedicated to my daughters Srobona and Sharanya on their 3rd and 1st birthday with the slightest hope that the sweetness and pristine charm of fairy tales remain in their later lives in their own small way, as they would tread their own paths through the mud and soil of their adult worlds.

'yet craving to embrace your sweet nothings'. That was my favorite line from a beautiful dedication. Awesome piece of work Ru.

Ru, your style of writing rings sweet music to my ears. Your daughters Srobona and Sharanya are fortunate to have a dear mother like yourself

Nicely written, I too am a mother to a 2 year old daughter, and I can feel the depths of your poem.

People say fairy tales do not exist. That true love is not for the taking.
The world holds too much sorrow for there to be a haven for joy. This is untrue.

For even in fairytales does misfortune exist. The key to finding your fairy tale is to find the way to overcome your turmoil.

For only when serenity exceeds anxiety can true joy be found. In true joy a fairytale can become real life.

I pray that the young girls in my life can hold this truth close to their heart and I pray that your young ones will see the joy in life more than the pain.

Great write I truly enjoyed it.
