A Knight

A Knight

A Poem by ron

   A Knight

(Sworn to Courage, Duty, and to protect above all else)

And on the midnight's flame of torches and ash,

a Knight is born and forged.

Upon his soul he pledges,

I am a Knight,

I am the sword,

I am the shield,

I am the protector of the weak...

In solemn words and future deeds,

a Knight is born.

A Knight never chooses to become a Knight,

a Knights sword and shield chooses him.

And into the mouth of death a Knight will ride,

free of doubt,

full of courage and bravery,

he rides.

Be strong for the ones who cannot,

give courage for those who are weak.

Let Odin take your soul,

and know you are worthy.

For we shall meet in the Halls of Valhalla,

and drink at the canteen at the entrance of,

Fiddlers green.

And A Knight is forged,

with a sliver of light,

that cuts through the darkness.

The spear of the enemy shall not pierce your heart,

for the Knighthood of those before you and after you shall be your armor, your shield, your courage.

They are who you are and give you strength,

when the light pales and weakens is clear…

when courage seems fleeting and all that is good,

hides in the darkness.

The shield and sword of your Knighthood,

will be the lightning that strikes,

and  protects,

the courage that makes you who you are…

a Knight,

a Knight,

a Knight full of,

courage,

strength,

a shield that protects.

Be all that and more dear Knight.

Be the foundation of all that is good,

be who you are in your soul,

your courage,

your strength.

Be the one no others will dare,

to challenge.

Be the warrior that calls to others and,

inspires those who could not find,

what they hold deep inside.

Be the inspiration for courage when,

all else fails.

 Be this and more,

for Knighthood will ask all of this and more of you.

Knighthood will demand more than most can offer,

it will ask you to give your soul,

your strength,

your life.

Will you give all of it freely?

(This next stanza is inspired by “Ride of the Rohirrim”, Lord of the Rings)

Let your spears shake,

let your shields splinter,

let your swords bleed red with the enemies blood.

Be the Knight that hides in your soul,

hides in the glory of who you are.

Be the Knight that forsakes no others,

be the light that inspires others to do good deeds.

Be the protector of your brothers and sisters when they cannot.

When they don’t know the way.

Show them the light that shines so they can find the courage and strength to carry onward.

Wow! Very moving poem. It is amazing what the men and women in uniform go through everyday- I could never do it! I am definitely very thankful for the warriors that defend us everyday and allow me to live a safe life. The woman that I am dating now, Andrea, would love this poem. She served in the Army and she has a warrior mindset. I will share it with her.

Your welcome.
I like the way you used your experience as a soldier to describe in a methaphorical style what those true warriors that set the battle field before us went through.

Great poem. Sounds like being a Knight is a special job and something that would be a privilege. Just an all around great piece of work =)
