For my daughterA Poem by ronI know this song is about a father and son but it resonates in me of how I feel about my daughter. For
my daughter
Who
was I to be your father? Missions
came first, duty
to country and honor was what the uniform dictated.
I
did it all for you and family, you
were proud of me, you
told your friends about me with pride in your eyes, but
in the end all you wanted and needed was your dad…
When
you were first born my life was complete, I
didn't need any more than the smile on your beautiful face, you
looked up at me and kissed my heart.
But
soon the Army, Country, and honor of duty called, I
kept you in my heart, even
on those missions that took me so far away from you.
Soon
distance separated us, I
could have followed, but
I didn't…
Soon
guilt for not being there for you seeped into my soul, it
tore me down to my core.
I
can only imagine what it did to you. Please
forgive me.
But
soon we started to talk, and
we are relearning about each other.
New
and wonderful insights abound, knowing
a daughter that I knew but relearning, is
a gift from God.
We
might not see eye to eye on all things, but
love and hope is there for us, and
that is more than I could ever hope for.
To
you my daughter, my
love, my
life, the
person that keeps me alive inside, these
words and many more are there for you and your family.
