What are we if not our word?

What are we if not our word?

A Poem by ron

What are we if not our word?

Trained to do what others would not nor could not.

Trained in the worst the world has to offer.

Kept a promise to the country they loved,

“I will not fail you”.

Kept a promise to the ones they loved…

“I will come back to you,

by body or soul”,

let my brothers carry me home if they must.

To many have come back in,

caskets.

Born to keep honor in their hearts,

honor is never learned,

it is the steadfast word of those who serve.

Let the night fall,

let the moon show.

In the jungles, desert, forests, and grass lands,

be the realm they live in.

Be more than you can be,

be the one who took courage by the horns,

and thrust it forward.

Test the ones before you,

let them honor the ones,

that fate has left behind.

Make them the ones,

that fate honors.

In their wake,

we shall not forget.

Others after them shall know what trials they suffered.

No word needs to be given,

to honor their duty,

their requiem is now spoken.

It was honor and nothing more,

my body is given in honor of your,

freedom.

Let it not be said that they did not honor,

their fate.

What price freedom tho', and did they really die to honour their country or were they pawns in the oil games?

Brave and honourable young men and women go to war for seemingly all the right reasons their governments feed them...so many of those that do return never survive the horrors mentally ....

Thank you but I have not been in a war zone like so many others have.
Ron, this one touched me beyond measure. My son just entered the Marines and is just completing basic training. I loved this one! You captured the essence of the mindset perfectly. I am in your debt, sir. This one is going in my favorites. Thank you for sharing it.

a very beautiful and patriotic piece....we hate war...but we have to love our soldiers who risk and often give up their lives to keep us safe.
