When I was nineteenA Story by ronInspired by Kelly Scheppers “Hey nineteen”When
I was nineteen
When I was nineteen it was 1983, the same year I
graduated High School. OMG what a time and what a year. We listened to the
Beatles, Queen, Pink Floyd, Rush, Kiss, Prince, OZZY, and so much more. We even
smoked pot.
I was in the High School band and "Boat on a
River" to took us away to a magical place of things we could not
understand. I even sat on the second "L" on the Holly
Wood sign on a Sunday morning drinking a beer and watching the sun rise over
the horizon as the Hollywood lights from the Hollywood strip and the lights
from Catalina Island faded in the distance. It was a Magical time. It was a time of
enlightenment, a time that was ours, and no one could ever take that away from
us. I think back to those times and cry, for they will never be the same.
I look back on that time fondly and remember…that is
who we were, that was our time, our destiny to grab and shape our future with.
How we wanted to change the world, to make it better, different, OURS. To make it…it. Our high School Band was not any band, we told the
gang banger's to take off their colors (and they did), we played the Varsity
football team on a Saturday, and we took the field as they looked on in dismay.
We were the Champions of our universe. But the one thing we did not do, nor tolerate from
anyone in our School, was to put someone down for who they were.
This is a bit of my “Hey nineteen” Thank you Kelly for letting me remember xoxoxo
