The meaning of a cup of Coffee

A man walks into the coffee shop. He waited in line as the patrons thought to themselves…Why is that man in here?

When the man got to the counter, he ordered a small coffee; one of the patrons offers to pay for it. Smiling at the kind Lady, and says, “Thank you, but that’s not necessary, but for your kindness may I pay for yours?”

The woman looked perplexed; um I’m not trying to be mean but aren’t you homeless? “Why yes I am” the man said smiling, “but I do have money.” With that, she let him pay for her coffee, and asked him to sit and talk.

Sipping her coffee she asked, “If you have money than why are you homeless.” The man sipped his coffee and considered her for a few moments.

“You see,” he began, “I grew tired of rushing around, running late, and having people late for meetings they would arrange.” “One day I was sitting in this coffee shop and realized something.”  The woman leaned forward in anticipation of some enlightened wisdom.

“I realized that no matter how late or early I…or anyone else was, the coffee was always on time and just what I needed.” “I don’t understand” the woman replied.

“It’s quite simple,” the man continued. “Have you ever known a cup of coffee to be late? It’s always ready when you expect it to be, and wasn’t it just what you needed?” “Well I decided to give up everything I had, and be around the one thing that never let me down.”

The woman sat back and contemplated this for a few moments.

“Maybe I will see you around some time.” At that, the man stood up, bowed his thanks to the woman, and walked away.

A coffee attendant walked over and handed the woman a refill. “I didn’t order a refill she said.” The attendant smiled and said, “It’s already paid for, no worries miss.” The woman looked at her coffee; um can you tell me who the homeless man was?”

The attendant smiled, “Oh that was no man…that was fate.”

To the reader; When life gets you stressed out because of arriving late to meetings, or all the lights seem to be red just as you get to the intersection, just remember a cup of coffee is never late and is always what some of us need.

Thank you icelandicblue...;)
I love this story. It's heartwarming, in a mysterious, charming way. I always have too much sugar in my coffee, but I like it strong, too. xD Sometimes we just need a coffee break. Splendid!

You're very welcome! :3
I like the story a lot. Took me 50 years to realize. If you are late. It is okay. It happens. I'm coffee drinker. I create my own mixes and I enjoy my time with my coffee. I like the use of Fate. Thank you for sharing the outstanding story.

Thank you Coyote.
Ron, I do not often read stories here, due to time restraints (ironically); I stumbled upon your tale during my lunch break - and it was just what I needed - much like a cup of coffee is at times... Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you Rita. I am so happy it was what you needed. I hope it put a smile on your face.
Ron,

I have read many of your works, but this is to me the best you have written and posted on this site! The message is full of sage advice and the way you relate it to the reader is in a way that we may relate to as most all of us know that "cup of coffee" feeling. Fate plays out for all of us - it is how we accept it that matters the most!!

Excellent write and most definitely going in my favorite file!! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful story!!
Please write more as this, or if you have more as this, please share them with us!! I am quite touched by it!!

I would really love to see you write a story of what it meant to you to serve on burial detail in the military! Veteran's Day is close at hand...........do you have a poem or story to share?

Ah, I love me some coffee! I remember waking up to the aromatic smells filling my small apartment and letting the warmth fill me from the inside out. It was such a soothing and calming way to start my day that I scarcely realized my addiction to it. Now, sadly, I am always in a rush, and can scarcely finish the mug before rushing off to one event or the other. It is not longer a salve for my day, but has become a daily fix to assure I wont get a headache from not drinking it. Anyway, lovely message, Ron!
