Was it so long ago?

Was it so long ago?

A Poem by ron

Was it so long ago?

I stand on the ruins of a long forgotten castle's keep,

And look out across the valley and the lake.

I hold my head high, for here is where my ancestors speak to me.

They show me the battles they fought to protect all who dwelt here,

Of how man once grew alongside nature.

Could you feel the cool breeze brushing over your face?

Could you smell natures scent as she blossoms?

Do you hear the sound of children playing in the rushes,

As the deer nuzzles against their soft gentle faces.

Do you hear the humans and the wolves as they quietly stand guard?

Do you see the bears showing which trees to fell?

The birds picking branches to make their nests

In the window sills next to the cooling loafs of bread.

At night the fireflies come out to light the path down to the lake.

The fish splashing in the water, to play with anyone who will take the time.

Was this so long ago?

As a modern day warrior, I can see how you could connect to those from the past that stood as protectors, more brutal but simpler times. I like how you speak about those who stood guard and then touch on all the things that were possible because of their efforts - children playing without fear, a comfortable home, not having to fear the dark. Very nice work. :)

one quick typo:
" stand on the ruins of a long forgotten castles keep"- castles should be "castle's keep"

Cool poem. Something to think about. what separates today, people from nature? and was it so long ago? in the grand scheme of things, not really. Nice reminder for people. The past should speak to all of us that way.

Great job!

Thank you Ees. I will fix the typo. Yes the past should speak to all of us that way.
