Punished for a belief

Punished for a belief

A Poem by ron

Punished for a belief

Does my religion scare or threaten you to the point you have to punish and kill me?

Does killing me give you a place in your afterlife?

Do you not believe that life is sacred and worth living for?

Is your hatred for things different from yours so bad that you have to kill?

Does your God or whatever Higher Powers you believe in demand that you kill?

Would you not find some other reason to kill if ever one believed as you?

Do not kill me and claim it is your Higher Power commanding you too.

If you are going to kill me, at least be honest and do not be a coward, tell me it is just because you hate so much.

You have so little regard for life yet you cry about how you just want to be heard and not mistreated.

Well for those of you, who hide behind a twisted version of your beliefs; understand that there are those that would do the same to you.

When they come for you do not cry to me about how you are being punished.

Just remember you did the same to them.

I don't know what it is about some people that they feel threatened by anything that's different or strange to them. I've given this much thought, and I think a big part is that they are monkeys who think they must be like all the other monkeys. The big, cool monkeys drink Miller light, so others do, too, even though in a blind taste test, they'd choose Samuel Adams. Five hundred years ago, a catholic stepped on a protestant's flowers, so they must be hated, always. They don't think, they just do. My brain doesn't work like that and apparently, yours doesn't, either.

Excellent!! You have taken the philosophy of political reasoning and extended it a step further to include how religion causes one sect to kill another as they share not the same beliefs! Your ability to reason and expand a topic is impressive and initiates a defined point for us to consider and evaluate! Politicians are prone to "carry a cross" for their beliefs and in their way murder us as they shove their beliefs down our throats. Countless are killed in the name of religion - which you speak of in your poem. Your questions give cause for us to stop and think and ask, "What makes my religion any better than yours?" We are all brothers and sisters and love should be the defining factor in the treatment of all human beings! Yes, we must remember "you did the same to them".
I enjoy your ability to analyze and encourage us to think!

I was taught to be humble in your words and deeds. So credit or my words comes hard in my heart.
