The Question

The Question

A Poem by ron

The Question

What if, we are not who we are?

What if, we are someone else, and just looking through their eyes?

Could we ever find ourselves?

Would we want to and if so why?

Am I me because I think?

Or are you me because you think you are?

Therefore, who are we?

The question you see is not so complicated a thing.

It begs an answer that does not really have a question at all.

In the end, who are we if not ourselves?

That is not really the answer to the question we seek?

Are we just fooling ourselves into believing we are who we are not?

Is it the other person, asking the question that seeks the answer to your question that I could not possibly answer, because I am me who you are?

I think I shall contemplate the answer to the question that you did not ask.

Because if you did not ask it then it must have been me.

I honesty found this to be a humorous piece since we all struggle with identity. We all stand before the mirror, wondering who we are. It is perhaps the silliest question we can ask because we never stop growing. The simplistic answer would be: Be honest and trustworthy. It is only then you can be yourself. The poem itself takes us through a leap of questions of philosophical thought.

This reminds me of the theory that we are not in our own dimension but, in at least one other or possibly several.

I'm not a philosopher or a scientist who studies quantum physics. However, I do wonder if these possibilities are real, does that mean I still have to pay my bills?

LOVED your poem. It's a thinker!

You say its a silly poem but I find it very contemplative.. What if you were not you and I were not me? Would there be a we? these questions have been (not) asked for thousands of years I think.. This is a favorite of mine though I had to read it 3 times and still not sure who asked it.. lol Rose
