For Freedoms Glory

For Freedoms Glory

A Poem by ron

For Freedoms Glory

Sabers crossed and spurs dug deep.

The charge was made, their honor would keep.

Cannon balls roared and shots rang out.

Some fell to glory, the glory of battle.

Onward, they rode through the smoke dark as night.

Onward, they rode for freedom and might.

Closer they rode into the enemy lines.

They now could see fear in their enemies’ eyes.

Onward, they charged, the momentum did carry them.

Onward, they ride to the carnage that patiently waited them.

They reformed the spear as it dug deep in the lines.

Gathered together they struck the blow that would free our lives.

The battle was won that fateful day.

But to what cost from the brave that selflessly paid?

They are now laid to rest, the brave that had died.

Remember their price, the price they had paid.

So that we can live with the freedoms, we have to this day.

Looks to like you neatly and aptly named the 1812 Overture. Very victorious and triumphant music, definitely would set in time to the words you have written here. Nicely don, Ron.

Here's hoping future disputes with our neighboring countries are more intelligently worked out with less bloodshed. :7

Well written as usual Ron. I am always excited about Patriotic poems, but yours has a special cadence and quality to it that really 'puts the boots on the ground."

Thank you for such a glowing review.
For freedom's glory we have many a fallen soldier to be thankful for! Thank God for their courage, their dedication, their sacrifices made to enable us to live in the land of the free and brave!
You speak of spurs, horses, and cannon balls so I am thinking this is a Revolutionary War battle since they were so close to see fear in their enemies' eyes. The advancing lines of the British put them "in your face".
Or, the Civil War?
Either battle, it is a write that makes me realize all the more how remarkable every one who serves is!!
