Holding back five thousand

Holding back five thousand

A Poem by ron

Holding back five thousand

I will be one of the one hundred and eighty five.

The walls breached. The one hundred and eighty five held five thousand at its wake.

Turn the tide of the battle, was the cry.

Hold them, hold them again and again. The walls held strong. Only their souls will tell.

Black as night it came. In the light, it cut them with its sword.

Don’t cry for me I held back five thousand, and I will hold back five thousand more.

Walls breached can only be ... Starship Troopers ! *Grin*

No, I imagine there were other walls breached, let's see. Well, there was Bunker Hill, I think Hitler was protected by a wall, there was something about a wall of Jericho, and the Berlin Wall. Hmm ...

The wall held strong. I think that discounts all of them tho, even Starship Troopers as they were overrun by BUGS. Definitely very unfair odds for 185 to 5000. As Spock in Star Trek would say, I calculate the odds approximately 27.027 to 1. Not very good odds, captain.

Boy, is that the truth. Keep on 'preachin' it brother! Thanks!
I note you have written this for the Battle of The Alamo.......BRAVO!! It was this group of courageous fighters who battled for and stood firm for this belief in what was in their heart and spirit! They did not back away!!
I like the "battle cry" tone of your poem!! Well done!!

Some thing the poiticians should re-read. Im just saying.
"Turn the tide of the battle, was the cry.

Hold them, hold them again and again. The walls held strong. Only their souls will tell.

Black as night it came. In the light, it cut them with its sword."
The way I read this poem and I could be wrong is that you are describing some kind of battle between light and darkness... Light wins in the end...Brilliant...:)

Good to know. You are welcome...:)
The sound of the battle cry. History has many cases of a few holding off against overwhelming odds, any one in particular here?
