![]() Night shiftA Poem by ronNight shift Standing guard while others sleep. The moon and the stars are my only company. Doing my rounds making sure all is safe at post. Knowing that those who left me to take care of things I guard are sleeping sound. Flashlight watching eyes scanning for the smallest inconsistency. Hourly reports written in the dim light. Once again, I get up and make my rounds. Once again, I fill out the shift log. Rounds and reports become so redundant. I know no one sees the mundane job I do. Nevertheless, it is my responsibility. Making minimum wage, fighting the taxman that takes so much. I’m not skilled at much but my skills I hold are not the ones others care to practice. I’m one of the many who watch and guard at the times no one cares to. © 2013 ronAuthor's Note
