EntitiesA Chapter by Sally
Selma took her keys and bolted the door. Then, hand in hand, her and bounty started sprinting up the street and around the corner behind a clops of trees where the fields grew and stretched into the distance. Miranda, now in her falcon form, perched swaying in the wind upon bounty’s shoulder, the large bag that Selma carried clanked and blue in the wind as they ran. where’s the wand! selma yelled as the wind whipped at their hair and almost blowing their heads off. The falcon took flight again, wheeling around to flap in front of Selma, showing her the wand clutch tightly in her claws. good! Selma yelled over the roaring wind. The falcon wheeled around and positioned herself back on bounty’s shoulder, bumping a little and almost falling off as they turned a sharp corner and ran over a rocky uneven track. they reached a grassy bank under a tree and collapsed onto the grass to catch their breath. how much longer! Gasped Miranda, she had flipped back into her human form and had fallen off bounties shoulder. She was now lying half on the grass and half on the rocks. quite a while, bounty said, watching with amusement as Miranda pulled herself up and brushed off the dust. Fig roll anyone, because I just happened to have them? Miranda said, randomly pulling out a packet of fig rolls. It’s not ideal, selma said, but it’ll do for the journey try and keep some spare will you? yes of course, miranda said solemnly handing them each a fig roll. as soon as they were done eating, they were off running again. We’ll meet a friend who will take us by car, selma shouted in the wind. They stopped again under a bus shelter. suddenly, a car screeched to a halt beside them. They all clambered in, and no sooner had the door clicked shut, then the car sped into the distance. That was strenuous, Selma said as she settled herself. Where to, anywhere nice? The woman asked. To the place where the legend of the bewitched wand began. Selma said. dangerous place, the woman observed. Why so, bounty asked curiously. A man by the name of Jamila was corrupted there last year, the woman informed them. Corrupted! selma said sharply, the woman did not respond, noticing Selma‘s tone. Selma and bounty looked at each other with horror. The falcon playfully nipped bounty,s ear, he squeezed her hand gently. I’m sure it’s not the same person, there are loads of them out there, he said. Five minutes later, the car screech to a halt at the top of a mountain. You didn’t tell me it was all the way up here, Selma said in surprise as they got out of the car. over there is a small wooden hut, he explained. In the hut there stands a pedestal, we will place the wand on the pedestal and using the hammer in your bag, we will snap it. it will never be able to do magic again, it shall never be so dangerous. they were in front of the wooden hut now, and the car has sped off into the distance. as they entered the tiny dirty room, Miranda turned back into a human and leaped down. The room was barely big enough for three people, let alone the table which stood now crammed in the corner. Selma pulled out the large hammer from her bag, there is barely enough room, she said. Miranda handed Selma the wand and backed out, I’ll look out for approaching danger, she said, turning back into a falcon. bounty stepped back as Selma placed the wand on the pedestal, swung the hammer over her shoulder and brought it down with a smack, smashing the hammer. it splinted into tiny fragments and fell all over the floor. Feeling the bag much lighter, Salma turned to bounty and slid the hammer back into it. That was easy, she said. Not so, called Miranda sprinting into the hut. what is wrong? Suddenly, a shadow appeared in the doorway of the hut, Jamila! Bounty gasped in surprise. Suddenly, the shadow vanished. pondering over what had just happened, the trio walked down the mountain side and found the car with the woman sitting inside, waiting for them near the bottom. what happened, she asked as they climbed in. You look as though you’ve seen a ghost. We saw him, bounty said. Jamila! Selma cried. I told you didn’t I? The woman said as the car door slammed, and they set off down the long narrow road at the bottom of the mountain. told you he was there. They stayed silent as the car turned the corner and sped up. Bounty lifted the radio from his belt. We are on our way back, he called to the waiting staff. Oh thank goodness! The voice of Melody could be heard through the stereo, she sounded relieved. The car pulled up in front of the house and they climbed out quickly. they walked up the long narrow path to the door, and Selma pulled out her keys as Miranda flipped back into her human form. As soon as the key clicked in the lock and the door opened, a very relieved Mabel flung her arms around Selma and yelled, they are home, hooray thank the Lord they are home! Melody came out, and led them through to the large living room.
