Thunderstorm MemoryA Story by Ashley ReneeA short story
Thunder booms and lightening lights up the darkened sky. Standing at the window, I watch the rain fall in large sheets of water. I remember these wonderful storms and long for what we used to have.
"Jesus!" I exclaim as the thunder booms loudly. He smiles and pulls me close as we watch the storm. "Hey...it's okay sweetheart. I got you. I'm not going to let anything bad happen to you," he whispers softly in my ear. I grin and look up into bright blue eyes. We both turn back to the window. His arms feel like home. I know nothing can hurt me as long as I'm in his arms. This was our favorite thing to do. He loved thunderstorms. I actually hated them. I didn't like the thunder or the bright lightening. The only thing I liked about it was the rain. I loved to watch it fall as it slams onto the pavement and creates puddles and rivers down the street. "I love you...." I whisper quietly to him as thunder and lightening start up again. "I love you too sweetheart. I'm never going to leave you," he promised me quietly. I sigh as the memory fades away. Tears roll down my cheeks just like the rain outside. He DID leave me. And it's moments like these that make me miss him more then anything. Wrapping my arms around myself, I imagine him standing behind me like we used to whenever the storms come. As I close my eyes and listen to the loud boom of the thunder, I'm once again safe in his arms. "Nothing is going to hurt you...I'm here." © 2011 Ashley Renee |
