Happy Meal

Happy Meal

A Poem by Roland Petrov
"

I wrote this light hearted attempt at blank verse in a bar while sitting next to the garnishes.

"

Tequila sunrise is my choice to start;

my taste buds woken up with orange slice.

Green muddled mint will be my salad course;

on bottom of my julep glass it waits.

Martinis make a championship main dish,

since olives are nutritious, healthy fare.

It's older fashioned cocktails for dessert;

sweet maraschino cherries are the pie.

Post dinner is my Irish coffee time,

the dairy course with shamrock on the cream.

WouldI get a virtual slap if I said "I'm livin' it?"
If only McD's served this up, it would give new meaning to the all day breakfast.
I do hope that dessert was an Irish coffee and not Guinness though, as drawing a shamrock in the froth os a hanging offence in Ireland.
They take it seriously there and won't let any new staff pour it until they've been there four or five years to see how it's done.

I have fresh orange and lemon everyday, could I have Tequila with that? Might make me a little wobbly at the start of my day, as I'm not used to it. I always think Tequila sounds lovely though!

This is delightful Roland, you certainly know how not to be boring when it comes to food. Just think - all those millions of people out there who never touch such fine food, have the same dull chewy pizza and chips everyday! :oD

a great characteristic of this site is that it has a master storyteller, a specialist in acrostics, a top romance weaver, a jokester (nudge, nudge, wink, wink!). you my friend are the number one connoisseur in the drinks department, hands down. this is by far the most apetizing meal, I've come across.

A very happy meal indeed; a smile-bringing poem that kept throwing a new colour on the canvas with each line. With so much to choose from, I think I'm hungry!

I came to the table expecting a meal and found liquid joy instead. This is beautifully writ, and I enjoyed it very much.

Three poems, and I was starting to wonder. :-)
Your word choice is so vibrant and vivid. I loved this iambic pentameter ride through the three courses! :)
Nothing to criticize. The punctuation is spot on btw..!

Well done sir. I guess you're picking a food poem from me caused me to pick the same of you. Fun piece and I like it. Very well penned.

I do have to say it gives a whole new meaning to "Happy Meal". Does it come with a gift?? A small shot glass perhaps with the name of the establishment.

Par excellence, My Talented Friend.
Some say the Blank verse is one of the most challenging poetic forms, but you made it look easy with a splendid flow into the world of libation and sustenance in such a way I feel the sudden need to partake a course or two of my own. : )

Your efforts and willingness to tackle anything thrown at you, and to do it well, makes me proud of you, Roland … you are a joy and pleasure to teach.
Now, give this little form from my Welsh homeland a try … I think you'll find it a pleasurable and worthy test for your growing skills: http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/RichardJ/1641179/

I love this one, Roland … you've done it to a tee, spot-on iambic pentameter and word choices.
Thanks for sharing it with us, My fine Friend! ~ Richard
