I didn't read this one; I sang it! Must have been fun composing it, just as it was for me singing it.
Suzy's right: essence of summer and essence of youth as well.
I don't know why, but the last line made me wistful. It urges one to have fun and concurrently, heralds impermanence. Sigh!

Roland, you're a 'Beachboy!' I really liked the flirtatious nature here, though it would be hard to hang ten in the dessert.

There's nothing like the smell of coconut skin, unless there's food on the grill! ...love this...and summer!

This pretty much sums up the essence of summer for the young! The style reminds me a little of lyrics, probably quite a fast song that zips along with a lot of summer energy, maybe a rap? Feeling tired just thinking about it! ;o)
Excellent Roland, very different for you. :o)

One of the things I really like on writers' sites is to be challenged to write something I ordinarily wouldn't have. Care to join in Suzy? These are verses of four lines with 8-6-8-6 syllables, and two rhymes in each of the 8 syllable lines. Yeah, it reminded me of my youth: California in the 1970s.

I don't do rhyming poetry very well either, I used to, but since I stopped writing it, can't seem to get my head back into it. I'd like to write something funny with a rhyme - but it's all a bit lost now. :o(
This terrific poem is easily relevant today, but it seems especially descriptive of the summers I knew fifty years ago, and the way I thought and felt back then. Landlocked in a tiny rural town, the surfer music on my radio introduced a seemingly magical west coast world of beaches and bikini-clad, bronze-skinned girls lying in the sun.

My closest beach is at the Salton Sea; it's dead now, but apparently it used to be a happening place in the 50s and 60s. Thanks so much, Samuel. I owe this poem to Rascal; I borrowed one of his styles.
This is fantastic, Roland, and totally unexpected of you in this scenario, but I love the way you've woven the human and nature elements into a truly enjoyable adventure of youthful pleasures and shenanigans!
Honesty, I can think of nothing to correct, except maybe to include some well-placed commas and end punctuations to make it a finished piece, but whatever, you've sure done me proud with this splendid effort, Roland.
I almost felt like I was there, rompin'-n-stompin' 'n frolicking with the guys and gals in the hot Summer sun … toss me another cold one. : )
Thanks for the honor of writing in my form, and for the total pleasure, My Friend (kudos to Matt, too, for inspiring you) … I love it! ~ Richard

Don't forget the sunblock. You've definitely captured some summer fun here, Roland.
Thanks for sharing.
