Grasping at Illusions

Grasping at Illusions

A Poem by Rogie-Dodge
"

All grasping is for future or past

"
All your desires and aversions,
  All your hopes and fears,
  All your remorse and regrets,
Are for things of the future or past

The future and past are not real
  Future is only imaginings
The past is only your memory
It is now that is real and eternal.

When you realise this then you will know
  You do not need
  To grasp at the now
As now is already what is.

When you realise this then you will know
  All of the things
  You grasp at right now
Are nothing but ghosts and illusions.
Some people hear that the suffering in life is due to desires and aversions.
That is indeed so.
However, they think that to remove the suffering they should remove the things they desire or have aversion to.
If they desire food and excitement and pleasures, then they remove them from their lives and think this will make them happy.
Yet, not surprisingly, they find they are NOT happy.
Instead, enjoy food and excitement and pleasures as they occur, savour each mouthful of food, listen to every note of the music, embrace and accept not only the good but the bad.
If you are fully living in the present moment, then you will have no time to live in the past or future, where all your desires and aversions reside.
Then you will be happy.
