New Arrival

New Arrival

A Poem by Rogie-Dodge
"

The first night

"
It's late at night;
Cold and oppressive.
The clang of the keys,
The hellish screech of metal gates,
The heaviness of the foot-steps,
Reverberate in the darkness.
They awaken.
They stare out like caged animals
Through the small grilles of their cell doors.
All that can be seen is their eyes
Silently following each dreaded step.
Both frightening and frightened.
Who will they be
When the morning comes?

Chilling and dark. I was on the other side of the cells as a prison nurse. I never wanted to know what they were "in" for because my job was to care for them, no matter what they had done. I sometimes wonder who they became. Nice work.

Brings back memories for myself from my days I spent on the inside. It was brilliantly disturbed and dark, it pulled me in faster than anything else has so far.

Chilling..Brilliantly written. I enjoy the darker side of poetry and this is one of my new favorites.

The ending was excellent. Dark, but brilliantly penned :)
