Sometimes I Recall

Sometimes I Recall

A Poem by Rodney Ray Hatchell / Unheardsong

                       Sometimes I Recall

I am older now yet I still recall how I slain those clouds
of dragons hovering above my lady.
I was my mothers knight in shinning armor, how she’d
always kiss me and call me her little hero.
At night she’d read me to sleep  telling me about hero’s
from the Bible of Samson or King David, O how many
times I must have faded off  into dreams with my sword in
hand.

And now that I am older all the happy days are gone it
seems, but I can still remember  daddy singing me to sleep
as a child some nights .
I sneak into his house just to hear him  sings to Jesus
before  he sleeps and sometimes I can’t help but sing along
with him, then I  notice in his voice comes out a smile
as we sing each other nearly to sleep praising God before I
leave.
