Stop Sexual HarassmentA Story by Mikayla Rasmussenmy protest piece against sexual harassment/rape/bullyinga picture to protest against the bullying and harassment of people. The caption, "Still Not Asking For It" is referring to the excuse that people like to use where they say that, "oh she was showing a lot of skin." or, "oh, she/he was dressed as a (s**t)". This is not ok. There is no excuse to use a person's style as an excuse to sexually harass or bully someone. I have never been
one to show much skin at all because I have grown up with a warped
image in my head of what beauty truly was. I never thought I was
beautiful. I always thought I was too "fat" and My hair wasn't nice
enough and that I had too much acne. This is what lead to me being so
confused and lost about what I did to have been raped and sexual
harassed in life. I got told it was my fault. So
when I hear others talk about someone who was raped or sexually
harassed and they say she/he deserved it because they were dressed
indecently, I immediately feel my temper rising and my blood start to
boil because that is never an excuse. I never dressed like that and it
still happened to me. Just because a person's style may show a little
skin, doesn't immediately mean they are asking for sex. And
no matter the situation, if someone says no to any type of sexual
encounter, that means no. If it is pushed farther or forced upon them,
no matter what, it is rape. The same goes for calling people crude names
like s**t and w***e, especially when their only sexual intercourse was
forced. Please
lets stop the names and the violence. Nobody has the right to be
subjected to it. If you are a victim of these crimes, just know that not
retaliating with horrible things right back just shows that you are
higher than they are. Especially when you realize that's why they are
trying to bring you down. © 2014 Mikayla RasmussenFeatured Review
