the girl

the girl

A Poem by Mikayla Rasmussen

wrapped in her fathers arms,
the girl lays bundled up,
quiet, underweight, starving,
dying. her father cries silently,
the doctors can't be right.

wrapped in her mothers arms,
the girl becomes healthy,
now being bottle fed.
the baby is okay.

crouching by the door,
the girl listens silently.
her mother and father
scream, fight, argue.
over a baby that isn't his.

wrapped in her mothers arms,
her father leaves
without saying goodbye.
confused and upset,
the 3 year old cries.

sitting at home,
the girl sees her baby sister
for the first time.
the one that
isn't her fathers.

wrapped in her mothers arms,
she stares at the baby
in the arms of the man,
around when daddy
was over "seas."

being hauled away
in a car with flashing lights,
the other man
is took away.
he will be gone for a while.

wrapped in her mother's arms,
she tells her that the man
did a very bad thing
he will not be there
ever again.

coming home from her aunts,
the girl sees a house
full of people.
a new baby,
from another man.

wrapped in her aunts arms,
she watches the mother
smile at her baby brother,
from another man.
fours years down, forever to go.

smiling and happy,
the girls sits with a woman,
her fathers new girl.
she's the only child
and happy.

wrapped in the women's arms,
she drifts to sleep,
happy and loved.
it's the starting of a new life.
one to last, for a while.

sitting at the table,
the girl eats with her mother,
and siblings.
the phone rings that
thanks giving night.

wrapped in her fathers arms,
she is told about
the baby sister,
from the other women.
being 7, she's prepared now.

hanging up side down,
she waits  at the age of 9
for her father
to come get her.
there's another baby.

wrapped in the women's arms,
she tells her how good
and grown up she's being.
"i love you." she says
as the girl looks at her baby brother.

coming back to daddy,
the girl is happy.
the others mans son is with his father.
the first sister will stay,
with the girl.

wrapped in the arms of summer,
the girl stays with her father,
the first sister goes back to mom.
that summer the girl becomes
"a woman"

a year later,
the girl hides in her room.
there's a fight.
between the woman
and her dad.

wrapped in a boys arms,
the girl gets her first kiss,
and her father, a new women,
with kids,
already.

ripped form all she knows,
the girl stands alone.
confused, scared, mistreated.
for the past
5 years.

wrapped in no ones arms,
she struggles with
school, friends, and home.
the best years of her life,
turned to s**t.

during that time,
the girl found love,
lost love.
found friends,
lost everything.

wishing she were wrapped
in her mothers arms,
the girl hates every one,
everything.
and her father just watches.

happier then she has been
in a while,
the girl goes back to her mom.
To care for another baby.
from another man.

wrapped in the girl's arms,
she tells the baby secrets,
make each other laugh,
and she loved,
and wanted.

The girl finds a new love.
He is safe, true and loving.
He never lies
and will never hurt her.
She is happy.

wrapped in happy thoughts
she admits,
you are the perfect person.
You complete me.
You take all the bad away.

being dragged slowly into
into a new life again,
the girl finds herself,
at 16.
