little girl, don't you grow up

take that makeup off

and smile...

know your beautiful

 

don't get caught up in the fight

where your selected wrong or right

for every dream there's a chance

to prove that there is no "cant"

 

don't give your heart away

don't ever talk to strangers

do what your mama said that day

walk away from all the dangers

 

little girl don't you lose yourself...

stay away from growing up

you'll find that life's worth living for

if you don't know all that stuff

I've never had to raise children of my own, but I can only guess at the constant worries that a parent has for his or her child when growing up. They're powerless to stop them growing up - it's a fact of life - but it is possible to prevent any harm from coming to the child with good parenting. But it's never easy. Nothing is. I really liked how you captured the moment of a parent who was devoted to bringing up their child in a safe, loving environment. It was very well crafted and a nice poem to read. Good work
