Click ClangA Poem by BrearaAnother poem for Junior English
As I sit by the door waiting for the click-clang of the mail slot, I thought of what would be arriving today:
maybe a card from a faraway friend, or even a book from my monthly book club. I hear footsteps, the dogs start to bark, one a low bay, the other an excited yip. Quickly my heart begins to race. Patiently, I wait for that all-too-familiar click-clang, just so it won't seem obvious I've been waiting. "Click-clang;" there it is. I pause, waiting just a second...and in that second a million thoughts race through my head. Faintly I hear, "books, letters, court summons..." After the last echoes have passed, I finally brave the trek across the room. After shuffling the pile, I realize all my excitement was for nothing. All I've received is a pile of bills. © 2011 Breara |
