Ribald War

Ribald War

A Poem by Robert Ross

You asked me to follow you - a ribald suggestion.
I became a despot instead - to receive gave me indigestion.
I dictated terms, set accords - not an ounce of mystery.
You said you would sign - cryptic sneer.
an armistice - smoke still visible on the field.

You asked forgiveness - a ribald suggestion.
I don't remember that - problems with movement.
I rechecked terms - these glasses have spots.
You lost the war - bait and switch dot dot dot.
open arms we embraced - capitulation coursed.

You asked me to accept - a ribald suggestion.
I remember that - it flushed with ease.
We both write - gave it a good wipe.
We both read - cryptic sneer.
armies erect gates - preservation of what?
