Friendship

Friendship

A Poem by Robin Cela

In order for you to have friends,
You must show that you are a friendly heart.
In order to keep your friends,
You must not engage in the gossiper or whisperer part.
Sweet language and fairspeaking from your tongue sing.
Pureness of heart,
The grace of your lips will befriend even a king.

In order to love your friends,
You must not forsake the new or the old.
In order to keep your friends,
You must not burst into a fiery fitful scold.
Forget not your friend in your mind when you have wealth.
Love them at all times, do good in sickness and in health.

In order to know who are your friends,
Prove them first, and don’t be in a hurry to give credit.
In order to find the faithful friends,
They’ll be a strong defense. In life, a medicine of wit.
Those that fear God find friends that sharpens their countenance.
Those that know love find the sweetness of a friend’s hearty guidance.

In order to know when friends aren’t friends,
They will become your enemies in a day of your trouble.
In order to know when friends aren’t friends,
Nothing for their belly will cause them to hate you double.
In prosperity, there will be many that call you friend.
In adversity, all may say that you truly offend.

Hello Robin
What a lovely friendship tribute you have poetically expressed in your write
also the knowledge to know the difference as your last verse knows

It's always important to know who your true friends are (went through an experience recently that enlightened me a little on the subject). I think this poem is well spoken, and very wise. Great job.

I really liked that the rhymes didn't feel forced.
