It's Not FreeA Poem by robert1146Freedom comes with a price. Don't take it for granted. (From a self-published newsletter, Look Up And Not Down - July 2000)You know you think of the weirdest things, when you look up at the sky, I did that just the other day, to watch some clouds go by. The sky was blue, the clouds were white, and a bird soared in the air, I lay on my back and chewed some grass, as if I had no cares, But then it occurred to me I guess, the freedom that I had I tried hard to forget it but, I started feeling bad, I thought of all the wars we've fought and the battles that we've won Of the brave young men who've fought and died when the killing had begun, To realize freedom had a price, as did the values for which they died They gladly paid that ghastly price, to which my freedom's tied. Enemies have fallen small and great from Nazis to Slavery So I thanked my God for what I have, and the price they've paid for me - May I never forget what I have and the price they've paid for me. © 2009 robert1146Author's Note
