A Chapter by Robby DeLuca

"I really don't like this," Noel said, preparing her scythe for the upcoming battle.
"Nothing we really can't handle," Ezro said, looking at the number of enemies that were around the corner, "We've dealt with more,"
"Yes, but never anything this powerful,"
Ezro drew his blade and prepared for combat. The blade was short, and very well poised for combat and the black blade contrasted deeply with Ezro's blonde hair and blue eyes. Ezro and Noel were what was known as Descendants of Azrael, the Angel of Death. By that means, they carried a special eye called the Dark Sight, which allowed them to see the pure essence of anything. Ezro's Dark sight was in his right eye, which was very different from Noel's, which was in her left eye.
Ezro slipped out of the cover to another area where they could hide without getting attacked. Ezro pulled out a dagger and jumped to grab a nearby enemy by the leg and pull him back behind cover to slash his throat and and take the uniform he was wearing. Once Ezro slipped on the uniform, he popped out of cover and told Noel to wait there. That's when Ezro stalked off to go hunt his target.
~*~
It had felt like hours to Noel. She had only been sitting there for a few minutes, but she was waiting for Ezro for so long that she was getting worried. That was when the explosion happened. Ezro was nowhere to be found, so Noel began to run, her scythe still in her hand. She cut down any guards in her path to exit of the facility and sprinted, getting herself cut by plenty of enemies.
She slowly fell to the ground and laid down, her final breathes coming to her. She didn't even get to tell Ezro goodbye...
~*~
Noel woke up from her dream sweating like she had just run five miles in ten minutes. She looked around her familiar room and sat up and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. She realized that that dream was happening more and more frequently, and she tried everything to stop it. She stood up out of her bed and walked over to the mirror, mostly checking her eyes for the red irises that formed when she used the Dark Sight. Nothing. So she wasn't a Descendant of Azrael, and she really didn't know Ezro. She was just some normal girl who had just gotten out of school for the summer. She meandered downstairs to go get breakfast, and saw her father in the kitchen, as normal, preparing a plate of eggs before he went to work. Ever since her mother died, she had to let dad go about his business, otherwise he'd mess up his schedule and he'd break down. Dad dealt with grief by conforming to a schedule.
"Morning, hon," He said, looking up from the pan with the eggs in it, "How'd you sleep?"
"Good," Noel said.
"Did you have that dream again?"
"Yeah," Noel said, sitting down, "I swear that I'm going insane. I keep wanting to believe I'm this important Descendant of Azrael, but I know I'm not,"
"Well, I think that you should try to ignore it," Dad said, putting the plate of eggs in front of Noel, and then placing his own plate of eggs on the table so he can talk to her while they ate, "I know that you like the dreams, but you have to ignore the dreams. They may be important, but for right now, they're not,"
"All right," Noel said, looking at her father.
He was a tall man, with pale skin and dark eyes and thick salt and pepper hair. He was very thin as well, looking like a long piece of pale pipe. Her father was a very calm and bright man. His glasses slid to the end of his nose as he read the paper while he ate, looking like an intellectual sitting there.
"Well, I have to go, love you, Noel," Dad said, "Remember, when you go to Jackie's today, I need you to give his mom a couple things from the garden, okay?"
"Yeah, dad, love you," Noel said, shoveling her eggs into her mouth.
Dad left and Noel looked out the window to watch him pass, just to make sure he didn't try anything. He was known for being a prankster. When Noel was sure that he had passed, she went upstairs to get out of her pajamas and change into her clothes for the day. A green T-shirt and purple jacket with a pair of jeans. She grabbed her favorite backpack, a black one that was only big enough for her laptop, which was all she carried in it, and she went out the door with a plastic bag and plucked several ripe, juicy tomatoes and a couple of potatoes from the garden and started the half mile walk to Jackie's house. She looked around at the buildings that populated the busy Orlando street. She always like Florida, except for the humidity, which drove her insane and messed up her hair, which she truly hated. Other than that, she loved her home. It was warm all year, so she could go swimming whenever she liked, which she truly enjoyed. Noel loved the water. The sidewalk was already hot with the summer weather, and it was only ten o' clock, meaning it was going to be a stay-inside-and-crank-the-air-conditioner day.
Noel arrived at Jackie's house right on time, making her a happy girl. She fixed her hair to account for the already-rising humidity, making her happy that it wasn't too high at that moment, but she knew the walk home would be hell.
Noel stepped up the warm stoop of Jackie's house and knocked on the door, which was answered by Mrs. Walker, Jackie's mom.
"Hi, Noel," Mrs. Walker said, smiling.
"Hi, Mrs. Walker, here's the produce you asked for,"
"Thank you," She said in her slight Mexican accent, "Tell your dad that I owe him,"
"All right,"
"Jackie's upstairs," Mrs. Walker said, smiling.
"Thank you,"
Noel walked up the stairs and knocked on Jackie's door. The answer was a pillow thrown at the door. He was still sleeping.
"Oh Jackie," Noel said, in a jokingly sensual voice.
"Finally coming around I see," Jackie said, groggily, "I knew you couldn't resist this sexy beast for much longer,"
"Just shut up and get dressed, we have a lot to do today,"
"Are we finally going to go and kill the principal?"
"No that's next week," Noel said, holding back laughter, "We're going to go to that software programming at Melvin's,"
"Oh, no," Jackie said, opening the door in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt that didn't look very washed, "I don't know how you convince me to do all this geeky crap,"
"Because I'm really good looking and you want me,"
"There is that," Jackie said, "Speaking of, did you finally dump that jerk Roger?"
"No, we're still dating, much to your chagrin," Noel said, laughing. She knew Jackie had a thing for her, and she thought it was funny.
"Well, let's get out of here, before my mom decides to make me clean my room," Jackie said.
"You know, I don't want to clean your room either," Noel said, looking at the sty that was Jackie's room. There were dirty clothes everywhere on the coffee-stained white shag rug that adorned the room, and there were pizza boxes everywhere.
"God, live up to stereotypes, why don't you, Jackie?"
"Shut up. I'm not messy because I'm Mexican, I'm messy because I'm messy,"
"Yeah, I get that," Noel said, leading Jackie down the hall.
~*~
Melvin was a small boy, standing shorter than Noel's solid 5-nothing by about three inches, and was gay. The reason they were going to his house was because he was the best geek in town. He was capable of hacking any mainframe or building any bomb you'd like him to build. Today, Noel was going for some software work. They were working on building a new site that would help launch the band that Noel and Jackie were both in, Miles to Water.
"Hello," Melvin said quietly, as he answered the door. It was hard to believe he was older than them by two years.
"Hi Melvin, let's get to work," Noel said.
The group of them worked on the site, putting the music on the player, programming the Flash widgets, and working on the general look of the site, before they decided to finish and go out for pizza, of course, at Jackie's suggestion.
The three of them went out to the pizza place called the Last Pie Standing, a local place they all liked. They looked at the menu and Melvin and Noel started pointing out the good-looking men in the room. They were in the middle of it when a new boy walked in and Noel gasped. He was tall with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. It was Ezro.

I like it, it might need some work however. Maybe leave out the Azrael stuff until later, make the characters give you all the information, and not tell us straight up. Maybe also have the dad and Noel talk the dream and have the dream vague itself, in order to make more clarity. Might sound weird, but try it out. I honestly thought I had jumped into the middle of the book and missed some major elemental development, making it somewhat hard to get into in the first place. Again, I like the idea, love the execution, but maybe gradually bring us in.

I love the idea of them being Descendants of the Angel of Death! That's cool! I loved how it was only a dream, had a little suspense which is good. Good job:)!

This was a little hard to follow at first, but I like the way you wrote it. Starting with the dream, I believe you said it was, and ending with the realization that it was actually real was very good. Keep it up!
