A Mile in My ShoesA Poem by Robby DeLucaA poem I just happened to decide to write. Sorry for the few month hiatus. I just got done with Basic Military Training for the Air Force.Have you ever walked a mile in someone else's shoes, Felt the soft leather of their boots, Ran for what felt like hours in uniform, Never allowed to escape formation, Ran ragged until you couldn't move, Do anything the Instructor chose? Have you ever felt like your heart was ripped out of your chest, Felt the blood trickle down your breast, As you get pegged with another week in Hell, Will I get out? Only time will tell, Making loved ones cry, Feeling like in here you'll die? Would you walk a mile in my boots when I go to war, With family back at home you don't see anymore, Marching through Iraq, Bad guys always at my back, Too afraid to remove my helmet, Needing to kill men you just met? If you answered no to any of this, don't judge me, There are still things I have yet to see, But already, I've seen Hell, and worse, Just in my life's nineteen year course, Would you walk a mile in my boots?
