Dissertation on he state of Americana…things ain’t what they used to be.

"

There’s folk that say, “actions speak louder than words” and I do believe that’s why you don’t see many mimes in politics.

This morning, I got to thinkin’  that there ain’t a lot of call for flea wranglers these days. Time was, when flea circuses played in every county across the land. Flea wranglers easily found employment and the circuses kept the national economy afloat. Considering the state of the union these days, i think our country would welcome a resurgence of traveling flea circuses.

Circuses, carnivals, fairs, side shows, street performers, and Ice Capades. A veritable cross section of American entertainment. How radio and television ever caught on, will remain a mystery to me. Sights, sounds, smells, thrills and chills all that and coney dogs.

Speaking of coney dogs, what’s more Americana than coney dogs? How did apple pie usurp the title away from the coney dogs? Oh well, titles come and go, fickle as the south wind. I’m a traditionalist, I like mine slathered with yellow mustard, but there’s some folk likes theirs soaked in maple syrup.

Was a time, you could transport your flea circus in one sturdy suitcase, and set up on any country crossroad or city corner. Now-a-days, there’s all kinds of transportation regulations, tariffs and on top of that, you need a license to perform before you can open that valise and give those talented little performers some fresh air.

No, its a shame, a cryin’ shame things ain’t what they used to be.

This is why nostalgia is so powerful. Painfully & tragically powerful. Att least to me. I like things on the darker side

"it's my party and I'll cry if I want to"-- I never was one to boohoo about things, but may have used that expression a time or two. Me--i'm more of a b***h and moan type. Now, about those coney dogs...
