a colgate momentA Poem by Red Rose
A Colgate Moment Oh m’god . . . we’re a nation of sheep! We think the same, dress the same, watch the same propaganda on TV. We vote for the same actors on the political stage and then we even get stuck in the same old places week after week like in the “dental care” isle at Walmart, spending way too much of our off-the-clock time over which flavor of toothpaste to buy. Should I choose the one with the cool-blue mint or the red-hot cinnamon stripes? What about the one with magic sparkles that make your teeth real white? I could use some. While you’re reading toothpaste boxes, your husband’s in the toilet paper isle, straining, his eyes glazing-over at the choices before him, desperately dizzy as he tries to recall if you sent him for Charmin or Scott’s, if you wanted the paper to match the guest bath off the dining room or the master in the upstairs bedroom. Decisions, decisions! So many choices in the land of the free, the home of the brave! We’ve got so-o-o-o many choices we can’t decide which paste to buy for scrubbing goo off our teeth. We can’t decide what color paper with which to wipe our own asses! And while you trivialize your life’s only hours away, those who wouldn’t do the same work day and night to make you a perfect, consuming, contentedly compliant, virtually lobotomized, and willfully ignorant slave blissfully welcoming in the coming New Age where we all blend into a gene-pool of we-are-the children we are the one. 28 july 2008 © 2009 Red Rose |
