One/faced, two/faced, three/faced, four

One/faced, two/faced, three/faced, four

A Poem by Rebecca

Two sides to every story

                                   to every face

                                    to every - coined

common turns of phrase keying into to common terms of behavior,

to this singly as only one side to see - only one face no hidden meanings, no subliminal messages; in looks, that never glance from surface to surface.

But two, oh, I should be so lucky

that there would only be two-faces!

As days go by time clicking past two

(because somewhere in far away history the signified needed a signifier something to identify it).

I see more facets and crevices;

dark places and inconsistencies that I cannot account for.

                         Did they grow from a single source out of experience and the

                         general chipping away? Refining, if you will (that means maturing)?

                         Or are they a spackling of the truth of the matter?

I’m no better, I know.

My apologies, if I’ve made this all about you;

              but I know my multiplicities -

              partings in my personality

              where things fall and rise out of random willingness ....

But you, you make me wonder; question where the divisions end.

             Is it possible to be one-faced in a two-faced world? Is it better to be two-             faced when the beast has six heads and twelve eyes, “the better to see

                                        you with, my dear.”

                To catch each weaving, changing countenance of them coming before

             they each swallow you whole (one-faced, two-faced, three-faced, four) ,

             leaving with you with little to do in your honest one-faced dignity

             but exclaim, "oh my, what big teeth  you have."

"Everybody lies" "Trust no one" "Be good or be gone" " every thing bad said about you is actually happening that person." Are we spiders? I admire your choice of words.

About
There's very little to tell about myself - primarily, poetry is what I write for myself though I do occassionally write rants (essays) and short stories. I have a great love of metaphors and layering.. more..
