Curse Of Christmas

Curse Of Christmas

A Poem by matelotrod

                     The Curse of Christmas.

Known as the Festive season, I'm sure there is a reason

Why it leaves many people stoney broke

Presents are not cheap and you can watch the prices leap

Christmas has gone way beyond a joke!

The Birthday of our Saviour doesn't merit such behaviour

Businesses will take you by the throat

Charging large amounts guaranteed to empty bank accounts

A subject that really gets my goat.

Why can't we change our ways and go back to the early days

Celebrating in a way that showed respect

The family gathered at the table Mother cooked what she was able

A little gift was more than you'd expect.

Fairy lights, Christmas trees, costs that drag you to your knees

Expenses have finally taken their toll

Christmas was a Holy event but now it brings me discontent

Money-grabbers are now in control.
