He Aint HeavyA Poem by matelotrodbased on a true happening, age takes no prisonersHe ain't Heavy I was faced with a gardening problem one that became quite intense I had tackled the problem years before; replacing a post in my fence I collected the post from a nearby store and headed back to my home On arrival, my wife pointedly said, "You're not going to do this alone"
I ignored her remark and gathered my tools until I was ready to labor I had just begun, it wasn't much fun when I was greeted by my neighbor "Can I give you a hand" he called to me, "I'm free for a couple of hours After all the fence separates our homes so it's just as much yours as ours"
I agreed to his offer and we set about the repairs, I was getting into a state It was years since I had done this before and I was stricken by the weight Things that I had taken in my stride were now swiftly losing their glamour I realized that I was a weak old man when I tried to use my sledge hammer
My neighbor took over the heavy chores he didn't make me feel inferior I just relaxed and allowed him to toil while I fell back onto my posterior The years have certainly taken their toll and I must admit it is a fact of life In future when I wish to take on a chore alone I will listen to my wife!
