No perfunctory StateA Poem by Rosemary Diane LuceroFor a friend's son going off to Art College in NY.
I was not intending to put it down in ink In a state too perfunctory to think Perhaps, I should have stalled and mellowed Avoided, absolved as caution bellowed Without its proper season it may read aghast Still, I liked it so and no rejections vast We take that chance to move it forward not past Knowing it may not bring any future To quarrel in and quarrel out, don't want to leave any doubt? Hurry here and hurry there, what can't you live without? Bother with this and bother with that, hope to gain an ounce of clout? Conjecture was easy for me the way I know it's easy for you
Don't let the meanings faintly pass, or grasp them on your way to class Not you-no way- I would dare not to even say, but Christian don't be fooled New muse, new bout you have to wonder what it's all about Excited, distracted, nervous, half torn, on your journey to be re-born © 2009 Rosemary Diane LuceroAuthor's Note
