Promise of Spring

Promise of Spring

A Poem by R. L. Ives

Winter release this place from your grip,
Bid your chill to return to thee
The warmth will melt your icy chains
And set the songbird free.

Your colors of grey must yield today
Relinquish your power to the sun
New day, new birth, new life
for you see it has begun.

Quiet your howling and errant wind
So I may hear the sweet strains
Of spring Robin's birdsong
after the April rain.

This is lovely - and just what I need, a reminder that spring really is here, in spite of the chilly temperatures.
